What we treat

We tend the ground where change takes root.

Evidence-led, pioneering therapies and care that treats the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

PTSD & Trauma

When the past keeps arriving in the present. Careful, trauma-informed treatment for post-traumatic stress and complex trauma.

Depression

Including depression that hasn't responded to previous treatment. Care that works at the roots, biological, psychological, ecological, and human.

Veterans & First Responders

For those who carried the weight for the rest of us. Trauma-informed psychiatric care for veterans, first responders and frontline workers, from people who understand service.

Anxiety

Generalised anxiety, panic and social anxiety. Treatment that steadies the nervous system as well as the thoughts.

Burnout & Chronic Stress

When the system has been running on empty too long. Assessment, restoration and a sustainable way back.

Adjustment & Life Transitions

Illness, separation, grief, identity, major change. Skilled support when life reorganises around you.

Women's Wellbeing

Care for the seasons medicine has long overlooked: perinatal mental health, PMDD, perimenopause and menopause, and the transitions in between.

Existential Distress

Psychological care for people facing mortality, meaning and serious illness, unhurried, and unafraid of the big questions.

Enquiry & intake

Four steps, and none of them on your own.

Care at Karuna begins with a conversation and a thorough clinical assessment. Here is exactly what happens, and when.

01

Enquiry

Reach out through our enquiry form, or ask your GP or treating clinician to send a referral letter. Self-enquiries are welcome, and no letter is required to start.

Any time
02

Welcome call

A member of our clinical team calls to understand what you are looking for, answer your questions, and explain the pathways, timeframes and fees that may apply.

Within one business day
03

Clinical intake

A confidential assessment with your matched clinician covering your history, current concerns and goals, so that an initial care plan can be shaped together.

60 to 90 minutes
04

Begin care

Your first session is booked at a time that suits you. Where it is helpful, we liaise with your existing care team, always with your written consent.

At your pace

Suitability for any treatment at Karuna is determined by a qualified clinician after assessment. Not every pathway is appropriate for every person, and we will tell you plainly if what you are looking for is not something we can offer.

Before you begin

The questions people ask first.

How does care begin?

With an enquiry. From there our clinical team calls you within one business day, and if Karuna looks like the right fit, we book a clinical intake with the clinician best placed to help.

Do I need a letter from my GP?

No letter is needed to make an enquiry. A referral from your GP or psychiatrist is helpful, and for some services it affects the rebates available to you, so we will talk it through with you on the call.

Is my information kept private?

Yes. Your information is held securely, handled under Australian privacy law, and shared with other treating practitioners only with your written consent, other than where the law requires otherwise.

Can I enquire on behalf of someone else?

You can. Families, carers, GPs and treating clinicians contact us often. We will explain what we can discuss without the person's consent, and how to bring them into the conversation when they are ready.

What if Karuna is not the right fit?

We will say so, and we will point you toward services that may suit you better. An enquiry carries no obligation in either direction.

Take the next step

You want to start, but don't know how. Just reach out.

Every pathway at Karuna begins with a confidential intake consultation. Tell us what you are looking for, for yourself or for someone you care for, and we will guide you from there.
